Likhu Khola Hydropower Project

Ujyalo Energy Solution (P.) Ltd. acquired the survey license of RoR scheme of Likhu Khola Hydroelectric Project with 42.3 MW installed capacity in Baisakh 2079. Foreseeing the present demand of peak energy in the country, attractive PPA rate for peaking and the way open for PPA, the company planned to change the project from RoR to PRoR. After the visit of a team of client, consultants and experts from 4th to 6th Magh 2079, it was planned to convert the project from RoR to PRoR. The hydrology and the power and energy was also revised. Then, the developer applied for the amendment of survey license of the project from RoR to PRoR with 36 MW installed capacity and obtained the amended survey license from DoED on 22nd Chaitra 2079.

The Likhu Khola Hydroelectric Project is located in Ramechhap Municipality of Ramechhap district of Bagmati Province and Likhu Rural Municipality of Okhaldhunga district of Koshi Province. It is located in the north east of Kathmandu and lies between 427 masl to 560 masl. The proposed headworks area lies at Ghirling of Ramechhap and Okhaldhunga districts and the power house lies at the downstream of the Phundri dovan of Ramechhap district. Geographically the project encompasses area between 27015'34"N to 27020'57"N and 86012'14"E to 86015'50"E.

The project area is easily accessible from BP Highway via Khurkot and Manthali. The project area is about 160 km away from Kathmandu. Out of 160 km, 135 km is black topped and the last 25 km is fair weather road. The project area is also accessible via Charikot and Manthali. The project area is about 225 km away from Kathmandu from this route. Out of 225 km, 200 km is black topped and the last 25 km is fair weather road. In near future, the project area can also be accessed from BP Highway via Likhu dovan (Likhu-Sunkoshi confluence). The black topped road up to Likhu dovan is about 148 km from Kathmandu and the fair-weather road in the right bank of Likhu River from Likhu dovan to Sanghutar is about 18 km. The motorable bridge at the upstream of Likhu dovan in the Sunkoshi River is under construction and expected to complete this year. Once the bridge completes, this will be easy and comfortable route to reach the project area.
